New FedEx Parking Lot Displays Community Growth

In early August, Duininck completed a 122,000 sq. ft. commercial parking lot for the new FedEx Ground distribution center currently under construction in the Willmar Industrial Park. The 217,000 sq. ft. facility is estimated to open mid-October of 2022 and will bring approximately 100 new jobs to the area.
Duininck produced, hauled and placed approximately 2,500 tons of asphalt and completed the project in 2 days. “I’m very proud of the crew and the efficiency in which they completed the project.” says Mitch Oman, Duininck Willmar Area Manager.
The scale of the new FedEx Ground distribution center is impressive and will have a significant positive impact on the local economy and job market. Aaron Backman, Executive Director of the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar EDC, says, “The FedEx project is the largest, one-time, private capital investment the city has seen in the Willmar Industrial Park.” Willmar was selected for the nearly $30 million project due to its proximity to a four-lane highway, unique distribution advantages and available workforce. “People are coming from all directions to work in Willmar and new developments like this are a large contributor to that,” adds Backman.
